Norman E. Amundson

Dr. Norman Amundson is a Professor in Counselling Psychology / Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia, Canada. He has given numerous workshops and seminars and also has been a keynote speaker at many national and international conferences. In his writings, Dr. Amundson emphasizes the importance of creativity, imagination, cultural awareness, and action as career counselling strategies. His publications include: Active Engagement (Past Winner of the CCA Best Book Award); The Essential Elements of Career Counseling; The Physics of Living; Metaphor Making; Hope-Filled Engagement and several career workbooks including Career Pathways, Career Crossroads, Guiding Circles, and CareerScope.

Dr. Amundson has won a number of academic and professional awards, some of his recent accomplishments include: Best Research Article in the Career Development Quarterly – National Career Development Association; the Judy Geoghegan-Doi Distinguished Professional Service Award – National Employment Counseling Association; Honorary Life Time Board Member of ENET; Honorary Life Time Member of the Swedish Career Development Association; and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Umea, Sweden.

Gray Poehnell

Gray Poehnell is an experienced career consultant with an interest in practical spirituality, creativity, imagination, and career integrity. As partner to Dr. Norm Amundson in Ergon Communications, he has participated in the development and writing of numerous career counselling programs and has co-authored several books and workbooks, including Hope-Filled Engagement, Career Pathways, Career Crossroads, CareerScope (for High School youth), and Guiding Circles (for Aboriginal or other non-mainstream people). He has worked with diverse client populations, such as youth, social assistance recipients, older adults, immigrants, professionals and Aboriginals and currently trains career practitioners both nationally and internationally. Gray is of Metis descent and is presently involved in projects to develop career materials from an Aboriginal perspective and to train Aboriginal career practitioners across Canada and in Australia in the Guiding Circles approach. He is also facilitating Guiding Circles training with a wide range of career practitioners who work with other client groups that benefit from a more wholistic approach, such as multi-barriered clients or students. He is happily married, has two adult daughters, and currently lives in beautiful Steveston at the mouth of the Fraser River.
